If you are receiving this e-mail, then chances are that there is a place for Neringa in your heart. As such a person, I invite you to take part in the 2008 Neringa I?kyla Walk-a-thon! Now, taking part in the I?kyla certainly involves coming to Neringa to reconnect with the camp? but it means something more. In the past few years the I?kyla has become more about coming to Vermont for a relaxing weekend, and less about raising money for the camp. While Neringa will always be a home away from home to us all, the original aim of the weekend must be reclaimed as a fundraiser. Those who come back to Neringa for the I?kyla come for seemingly different reasons. While some attendants come as they reminisce on the Neringa of ?77 or ?88, others think about the summers of ?07 and ?08. Some remember camping with their families, while some recollect camping with their peers; some reflect upon friends from English-speaking camp, others recall Lietuvi?. In truth, regardless of where your thoughts of Neringa stem from, whether you are an alumnus, camper or parent, the very spirit of the camp is constant for everyone. It is that spirit that ties everyone to that piece of land in Vermont. It is the continuation of that spirit that Neringa needs help with. Over the past five years, this event has become the premier fundraising event for Neringa, and for good reason: we are given the opportunity to enjoy Vermont's spectacular fall foliage and renew lifelong friendships while at the same time collecting valuable donations to maintain the legacy of Neringa. If you are planning to participate this year, please make an extra effort to collect as many pledges as you can. Just think, if everyone who comes to Neringa for the weekend would simply bring an extra $10 in pledges, that could equate to an additional $2000 to defray the cost of building a new shower house.
